Lexus GS Hybrid

The luxury division of Toyota had another first in introducing the first hybrid luxury sports sedan: the Lexus GS. The impact is actually impressive. There is the standard that one would expect from any Lexus, increased fuel efficiency, and an uncompromised performance, which may have taken the whole hybrid phenomenon to the next level.

There is some controversy surrounding the performance of the model that is making the environmentalists a bit edgy. The GS 450H is rated at 25 mpg in the city, and 28 mpg on the open highway. The numbers do of course raise legitimate questions for the consume, "Why buy a hybrid if better mileage can be realized form a an all fuel combustion engine vehicle?" These are questions the manufacturers will have to answer sooner-rather than later.

The interior is roomy and plush, and the low center of gravity styling allows the car to really move when pedal is put to the metal. This is a turn on for those buying in this vehicle class. They get speed and luxury in one package. It is yet to be seen how really environmentally conscientious the GS 450H owners are. Who knows how often they actually put the vehicle in hybrid mode?

The one thing you have to give to the Toyota Manufacturing Company, is they are highly innovative. And this, more than anything, attracts the attention and demands the respect of the world's car markets. By the time other manufacturers catch up, Toyota is on to the next project breaking new ground. Overall, the Lexus GS Hybrid is a good buy, and will no doubt improve in fuel efficiency in the immediate years to come.
